‘In Pieces: An Acoustic Retrospective’ Out Now!
Join Us At Our Sudbury Album Release Show Tonight Or Celebrate With Bandcamp Friday
Hello everyone,
We’re excited to share that today marks the official release of In Pieces: An Acoustic Retrospective. This project has been a long time in the making—both a reflection on and a reimagining of the songs that have carried us through the past 20-plus years.
Since its inception, Great Lake Swimmers has always been motivated by a desire to let the songs speak for themselves. Over the years, that core idea has remained, as we played, toured, and grew, the music took on layers—new instruments, new arrangements, new stories—yet underneath it all, there was always that acoustic foundation.
With In Pieces, we are stripping songs back to that core, where everything begins. Revisiting songs throughout our catalogue, peeling them back to their acoustic bones, making space for them to breathe. A bit like rearranging the furniture in a room you’ve lived in for a long time: things may look different, but the feeling remains the same.
Each track is a snapshot of where we’ve been, but also a celebration of where we are now. And while In Pieces is looking back, it’s also looking forward. Revisiting these songs has reminded us of the importance of simplicity, of space, of leaving room for the listener to fill in their own experience. That’s always been the heart of Great Lake Swimmers—the connection between the music, the words, and the people listening.
We’re thrilled to be releasing In Pieces on Bandcamp today, just in time for Bandcamp Friday. For those who don’t know, Bandcamp Fridays are special because the platform waives their fees, meaning every cent goes directly to the artist. If you’re thinking of picking up a copy of the album, today is the perfect day to do it. We’ve got CDs, vinyl, and limited edition signed vinyl available, along with the rest of our discography and merch.
Along with the album, we’re releasing something extra special—a book that includes lyrics from our 20+ year catalogue, with forewords and annotations by Tony Dekker. You can order it on Bandcamp now, on its own or bundled with the signed vinyl.
If you prefer streaming, don’t worry—In Pieces is now available on all major platforms. But if you want to show direct support, Bandcamp is the place to be today.
This album has been a real trip down memory lane for us, and we’re grateful to everyone who’s been part of the journey—bandmates, collaborators, and of course, you. These songs wouldn’t exist without you listening, coming to shows, and giving them life. We’re excited to continue this journey together.
Speaking of shows, we’re on the road this month with dates across the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands and then throughout Ontario in December to celebrate the release of In Pieces. We’re looking forward to reconnecting with you on the road, and we hope to see you at one of these shows.
Thank you for being part of this adventure, and for continuing to listen and support us along the way.
Take care,
Great Lake Swimmers
Thank you kindly, for publishing your book of lyrics. I really hoped you’d do it someday and am enjoying it so much. I open it (fairly randomly) to see what song is calling me. It’s truly lovely.
Saw you guys last night at Knox Hall. Just a beautiful, brilliant show.
